Colorado Mountain Goat

Colorado Mountain Goat

I was very excited when I received the news I drew my Colorado Mountain Goat tag in 2019. Instantly I wanted to start scouting the hills looking for different goats. We spent the entire summer scouring different ends of the unit that were less hunted. We spent a total of 18 days scouting only to find a few nannies and kids.

The weekend before season started we found this awesome Billy sitting at 13,200 ft above sea level. We were 8.5 miles from the closest road so we knew coming back into this location was going to be a trek. We decided it would be the best idea to bring horses up to take a little bit of strain off our back. Once we got up there on opening day the billy was in a tough location and the huge boulder fields made us leave the horses behind to make it through the terrain. After a 2 mile stalk we made it into shooting distance. With very little cover there was no choice but to stop at 680 yards to take the shot. The West Elk Precision 7mm Rem Mag sent a 180 ELDM across the mountain side and the rest is history.
