300 PRC Load Development: 212 ELDX and H1000

With the rise of the 300 PRC happening before our eyes, we wanted to do a video going over a successful load development using the 212 ELDX and H1000. This is the best powder and bullet combination we have found for this round and a ton of customers are currently using it in their custom built rifles.

For load development I use a 3 step method.

Step 1: 300 PRC Ladder test

The Ladder test is used to find your rifle's node. A rifle node is found when the rifle shoots the same velocity over a range of charge weights. For the 300 PRC we ran 76-78 grains of powder. We found a node around the 77.5 grain range.

Step 2: Shoot for groups

Once we have found our rifles node, we will take the median node range (in this case 77.5 grains) and use that to shoot groups. For larger cartridges like the 300 PRC, 7MM PRC, or 7MM Rem Mag, I use the node, -.3 gr and +.3 grains. For this test we used 77.3, 77.5, and 77.8 grains. I will shoot each of these powder charges in 3 or 5 shot groups and see which one produces the best results. Check out the results below!

As you can see the 77.5 grain load produced the best group at 100 yards. We want to confirm this group at distance though to 1, make sure it's truly shooting that well and we didn’t just shoot a lucky group, and 2, to confirm we are not getting any vertical dispersion at distance.

Step 3: Shoot at distance

For this test I will load up 5 rounds to shoot at long range to confirm they are shooting well. Make sure you choose a day with great conditions to shoot in. I like to go early in the morning to minimize mirage and wind. For the 300 PRC we set a target at 638 yards and shot a 3.5” 4 shot group. It was almost dark so I was happy with a 3.5” group.

Once I confirm at distance, my load development is over and I'm ready to hit the mountains! If you have any questions about load development feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email!
